Working with Lara

The “Sage” in The Sage Practice represents the 4 core principles of Lara’s work:

Safety, Agency, Gratitude, & Engagement

  • Safety: Create internal security to calm your nervous system & quiet your symptoms

  • Agency: Empower yourself with self-awareness, intentional choices, & new responses to old stimuli

  • Gratitude: Discover the transformative power of viewing your symptoms as a guide

  • Engagement: Connect with the people & pursuits that bring joy, meaning, & belonging

Ways to Work with Lara

While Lara is not taking any new 1:1 clients at this time, you can book a single 50-minute 1:1 consultation (whether you are a person struggling with pain or illness or a practitioner in this field) or reach out and get onto her waitlist. You can also check out her other Free or Low Cost Offerings below.

  • Individual (1:1) Private Coaching**

  • Small Group Coaching

  • Classes

  • Lara’s Free or Low-Cost Offerings

  • Stay Tuned for Workshops & Courses! Lara is currently developing some educational (PRT / mindbody) workshops (and eventually a course) that will be available for purchase here later this summer (2024). These will be a combination of video workshops, downloadable worksheets, and practical suggestions for what to try at home, and you will be able to go through them at your own pace. After taking the workshops, you will then have the opportunity to join a discussion group with others on particular topics. Lara’s goal is to reach many more people and in a more affordable way, than 1:1 coaching allows. This work should be available to anyone who needs or wants to do it, regardless of financial means.

Lara’s Methodology

The “Sage” in "The Sage Practice” represents Safety, Agency, Gratitude, and Engagement, and Lara works to help her clients reconnect with all four.

Unlike other coaches in the Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) field, Lara blends a wide variety of methods that extend far beyond PRT & somatic tracking. She also draws upon cognitive reframing, behavioral change & habit formation; mindfulness, visualization, & other nervous system-calming techniques; Internal Family Systems theory; writing & other expressive modalities; narrative medicine & sociological insight, as well as several strategies of Lara’s own creation.

Neuroplasticity is the common thread that gives all of these methods their power and their promise.

In individual 1:1 coaching, Lara will curate a personalized “tool-kit” specifically designed for you and your particular situation. In small group coaching, Lara will facilitate discussions that help to awaken in each individual a new awareness by tapping into the healing power of the group. In both settings, clients describe feeling much more empowered in their lives, with a deeper sense of agency, self-trust, and confidence, knowing they have the skills, strategies, and practices to handle whatever comes up in their bodies and their lives. Lara’s clients learn a new way of living in their body and relating to themselves, regardless of where they are on their healing path or what kind of symptoms they have.

What Makes The Sage Practice Unique?

  • A Sociological Social Justice Lens

As a sociologist, Lara understands the therapeutic value of recognizing how our own personal history intersects with larger social structures. Social problems & structural inequalities are written onto our bodies — but as “patients,” we are treated as if our situation is a purely personal condition. A sociological perspective can dispel the alienation, shame, and self-blame that people living with chronic pain & illness often endure.

  • A Focus on the Healing Power of the Group

Living with pain or other chronic symptoms can be lonely & alienating. Healing must therefore be a social process. No one can do it by themselves. If you participate in any of the group coaching options Lara offers, you will understand — not just in theory, but in an embodied way— that you are not alone. Groups matter, groups can heal, and only groups enable the collective transformation that will take your healing to the next level.

  • A Practice that is Both Path & Destination

Lara named her practice “The Sage Practice for several reasons (see above). The “Practice” part is intended as a reminder that to rewire your brain, empower yourself, and transform your life, you do have to practice. Finding your own inner wisdom takes time and making changes requires repetition. The good news is the more you practice, the better equipped you will be to face your fears and handle whatever challenges life throws your way. Engaging in this practice in your daily life you will find yourself empowered to tackle far more than whatever issue first brought you here.
